Will Rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar: Telangana state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad: Telangana’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit chief G Kishan Reddy declared on Monday that the party plans to rename Hyderabad as ‘Bhagyanagar’ if it comes to power in the state. Reddy drew parallels with the renaming of cities in India, citing examples such as Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and the renaming of Rajpath to Kartavya Path.
Hindustan Times Reported, Reddy emphasized the historical context, stating, “So, why should Hyderabad not be renamed? Who is Hyder?…Bhagyanagar is its old name, it was renamed during the Nizam rule. We will name it back to Bhagyanagar when we come to power.”
This announcement echoes the recent statement by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a political rally, where he also asserted that Hyderabad would be renamed Bhagyanagar if the BJP secures power. The proposal to rename cities has been a topic of discussion and contention in Indian politics, with differing perspectives on preserving historical names versus adopting new identities.
